I come to you today with a very special post. I want to introduce you to Kelly, she is a fellow photographer, mom and a cancer survivor! Kelly had a whirlwind ordeal with cancer in this last year and she has come through her trials with a wonderful outlook on life and on health. On of the reasons I want to share her story with you is to encourage all women to listen to your bodies and don’t give up when you feel like something is wrong. Kelly’s story is a familiar one, in fact I hope I will be able to share with you another story of triumph and survival from someone very close to me in the future, but needless to say I have seen this in more than one person close to me. The doctors all said she was imagining things and wrote her off as a hypochondriac but sure enough she knew her body and she knew something was wrong, and thankfully the medical profession finally listened before it was too late!
In Kelly’s own words…
“ I had a mass on my appendix the size of a volleyball. During surgery it was discovered it was cancer. Because the mass was so big they also removed my gallbladder, spleen, appendix, part of my colon and they did a total hysterectomy. I wasn’t uncomfortable before surgery. I just couldn’t seem to lose the 12 lbs I gained even though I was lifting weights and exercising 2-4 times a week. Why am I sharing this with you? Listen to your body. If something doesn’t seem right don’t stop until you get answers. I saw two doctors who gave me two very different opinions and it wasn’t until I went to ER that I got answers. “
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE everyone don’t let doctors tell you it’s nothing, trust yourself and get checked out if you feel something is not right!
Congratulations Kelly on your story of survival, we are all so glad you made it through and have chosen to share your scars with us raise awareness!
